Good morning, all! Happy Friday!
MLB’s spring training is only a week-and-change old and already one thing after another is highlighting the proceedings. That includes, by the way, catchers no longer signaling for which pitch a pitcher should throw. Is this progress or is it more robotics? I break it down in the video and audio commentary.
Here are some other thoughts on a Friday in February:
Numerous stories are indicating the Chicago Bears are moving closer to building their new stadium in Indiana. The stadium would be part of a $5B project. Think about that, for just a moment? The Chicago Bears could be moving to Indiana. George Halas must be rolling over in his grave. You could have a situation where Illinois has no NFL team and Indiana has two.
Adding to the intrigue is a report the Bears, who earlier insisted if they moved to Indiana they would still be called the “Chicago” Bears, have dropped that demand. “Back Home In Indiana” might bring on new meaning for “da Bears.”
Good for the Milwaukee Brewers to realize they have a good thing going. The team and Pat Murphy have agreed on a new three-year contract through 2028. Under Murphy’s tutelage, the Brewers have made the postseason two straight years. He replaced Craig Counsell, who left to manage the Cubs in 2023.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver told league GMs Thursday changes will be made to curb tanking. None of the proposals under discussion, however, include eliminating the draft. I will repeat: the idea is to prevent tanking and not “curb” tanking and you do that by ending the draft. Period! Case closed!
Yes, they were wearing ski caps and bundled up to the neck at the first round of the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles on Thursday. The rain was pouring and the wind whipping, but by 3 PM PT the skies had cleared and the sun was shining. The wind, however, was still blowing and the golfers and gallery were all bundled up. You see, it is not just winter in the northeast.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for being a subscriber and have a fantastic Friday!
