Good morning, all and Happy Thanksgiving Day Eve everyone!
What if football coach Jim Mora and UConn part ways? And what if Bill Belichick and North Carolina call it splitsville? I break it all down in the above commentary.
Here are some other thoughts as I contemplate my Picks for Kicks selections with a big week of football looming:
I am not trying to disparage Sonny Gray here, because you take what they want to give you. But when you do the math - and it doesn’t matter that the St. Louis Cardinals are kicking in $20M to the Red Sox for his renegotiated contract - the bottom line is 36-year-old Gray will make $41M next season pitching for Boston. Yes, you have to factor in the $10M buyout because I do not see him lasting in Boston beyond next season. Let that sink in. SONNY GRAY! $41M! Never could handle the New York spotlight! Never pitched in a championship series! Never pitched in a World Series! Never won a Cy Young Award. SONNY GRAY! $41M! Good for him.
The most valuable NHL team? If you said the Toronto Maple Leafs you would be correct, according to CNBC’s valuation of NHL franchises. Toronto is valued at $4.3B. The next five teams are the New York Rangers ($3.8B), Montreal Canadiens ($3.4B), LA Kings ($3.15B), Edmonton Oilers ($3.1B) and Boston Bruins ($3.05B).
Golfer Bryson DeChambeau is hawking a drink that refreshes on the golf course. The two-time U.S. Open winner also has a workout regimen second-to-none, as he continues to seek out perfection. Interesting story about an interesting person. Click on the link to read.
Retired NBC Connecticut chief meteorologist Brad Field and I have been co-hosting a winter weather podcast since 2018. Winter is knocking on the door and we have launched another season. It is Episode 208, by the way. On occasion we even delve into sports topics, as Brad is a huge sports fan and a high school baseball coach. Brad’s website is updated daily and has loads of information. Below is our first episode of the new season.
As as always thank you for subscribing and have a great Wednesday!
