When the New York Yankees wrap up the home portion of their exhibition season at Steinbrenner Field on Sunday, coincidentally against the Tampa Bay Rays, a massive transformation of the complex will quickly follow. Steinbrenner Field will be converted to the home of the Rays, whose ballpark was put out of commission last fall, when winds from Hurricane Milton tore the roof off of Tropicana Field.
It is going to be quite an undertaking by the Tampa Bay staff to get the park ready for the Rays opener on Friday, March 28 against the Colorado Rockies.
In this edition of DAN ON SPORTS, I talk about what is involved in the transformation of Steinbrenner Field and why, despite the buzz on social media about the Rays ballpark woes after this season, the franchise is not leaving Florida.
