Good morning, all! It’s hump day!!!!!!
I’ll bet not many people had the New York Jets on their bingo card as being the most active team at the NFL trade deadline, but they were. I break down the trades and why the Jets, as a franchise, have taken a step forward. Meanwhile, the 2-7 New York Giants are now starting at a 2-11 record. It’s all discussed in the above video.
Here are some other thoughts as I remind people who yearn for the coming of the next baseball season, even though this one just ended, live for the moment and do not wish your life away:
Tough break for San Diego Padres pitcher Yu Darvish. He will miss all of 2026, following UCL surgery. on his pitching elbow.
Here is a look at how the Jets made out at the trade deadline:
Turns out the drama of the seventh game of the World Series was not enough to win out over a regular season NFL game. 27.3M viewers tuned in to the deciding game of the World Series on Saturday night, televised in primetime. But a regular season matchup on Sunday afternoon between the Chiefs and the Bills easily topped that with 30.8M viewers.
MLB is right to be ecstatic with its viewership numbers for the World Series, but when you look at the Game 7 numbers vs. a regular season NFL game, it becomes quite obvious the NFL remains in a league of its own.
The defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder are off to a 7-0 start, for those keeping score at home.
It is behind a paywall, but if you get the chance to read former Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon’s piece in The Athletic, about working under then Rays GM Andrew Friedman, you should. It provides tremendous insight on how to be an effective leader. For those who do not know, Friedman has guided the Dodgers baseball operations, after leaving the Rays. Under his tutelage, LA has won back-to-back World Series and three of the last six.
LIV Golf is trying to up the ante and also get recognized in the World Golf Rankings. On Tuesday the rival to the PGA Tour announced it will switch from a 54-hole to 72-hole tournament format, starting in 2026. Meanwhile, when it comes to professional golf, we still do not have peace in our time.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for subscribing and have a terrific day!
