Good morning, all and Happy Halloween!
It’s already Week 9 for the NFL season and the video contains my weekly Picks for Kicks segment.
Here are some other thoughts as another Halloween arrives:
- There are so many things to like about this Toronto Blue Jays team, as they try to win their first World Series in 32 years, but here are a couple: 1. Vlad Guerrero Jr. is not only the best player on that team but he is also a leader. 2. Regardless of what happens for the remainder of this series, the Blue Jays are going to be a team to be reckoned with for some time.
- That said, I really believe Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto will win tonight’s game, sending the Series to a deciding seventh game on Saturday night.
- Remember, the Seattle Mariners were up 3-2 on the Blue Jays in the ALCS. One difference, however, is that the Blue Jays were going home. The Dodgers will be on the road.
- Nice to be Dodgers owner Mark Walter. NBA owners unanimously approved his deal to buy the LA Lakers for a record $10B.
Former Giants coach Tom Coughlin is among the nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. If he doesn’t get in, there should be an investigation.
- The Mets may have disappointed their fan base by not making the playoffs but signing Juan Soto turned out to be a win for the franchise. The Mets hauled in a record $308M in revenue at Citi Field this season.
- Because ESPN is so into betting, it is taking heat for how it is covering the NBA betting scandal, but the all-sports network is defending its coverage of the scandal, as you might imagine.
- As predicted here, another top name college football coach has benefited from the Penn St. coaching vacancy. Matt Rhule has received a two-year contract extension at Nebraska. Earlier Indiana coach Curt Cignetti received a whopping contract extension through 2031.
- If you told me Jim Mora will not be UConn’s football coach after this season, you wouldn’t get an argument from me. Mora is acting testy with the media over his 5-3 team’s lack of coverage. With all these head coaching vacancies around, it would not surprise me if Mora is sniffing around. He is under contract through 2028 at UConn with $10.01M left on his deal. That’s a mere pittance the way they are throwing money at these coaches, these days.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Enjoy your Halloween and thank you for subscribing!
