Good morning, all! Here is hoping you have a happy Thursday!
The someday-to-be Las Vegas Athletics and their owner John Fisher have been denied in their effort to trademark “Las Vegas Athletics” and “Vegas Athletics.” There is, however, an easy solution to this trademark saga. I break it down in the above video.
Here are some other thoughts as Giants fans dream of a coach Harbaugh:
As a fan of the New York Giants, am I the only one not too enthusiastic about John Harbaugh being the leading candidate - as we are told by the social media “experts” - to be the team’s next coach? It’s not as if Harbaugh is Vince Lombardi here. Yes, he coached the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl championship. To wit: that was 13 years ago. He went three straight seasons without making the playoffs. His teams are 4-7 in postseason games, since that Super Bowl title and numerous stories indicate he seemed to lose the locker room this season. He may be a nice person, and since his dismissal ex-players are posting laudatory comments on social media, but legendary coaches switching to another franchise late in a coaching career, usually do not do well.
To borrow the line from JFK’s inaugural address: “The torch has been passed to a new generation…” And so it should be, when it comes to the next coach of the Giants and the next coach for some of these other vacancies. Give the new generation its chance. Mike Kafka is part of that generation. Keep him as the head coach.
In case you are interested, the NFL has recorded its highest average regular season audience in more than 30 years. Each NFL game averaged more than 18.7M viewers. The second game doubleheader window on CBS averaged 25.83M viewers, while NBC’s SNF averaged 23.5M viewers. FOX games averaged 19.63M viewers with their late doubleheader window garnering 25.28M. MNF on ESPN/ABC averaged 16.5M while TNF on Amazon Prime averaged 15.33M. America loves the NFL.
Financial guru and media host Dave Ramsey is out with a warning for today’s young men. He stated on his radio show that gambling on sports is “destroying a generation of young men.” Let that sink in. Here is the link to the story.
It is not all glitz and glamour. Derek Sprague, CEO at the PGA of America, is resigning from the job after one year. He is returning to upstate New York to support his mother and mother-in-law, who both need care. How many reading this can identify with Sprague? Wish him and his family well.
Enjoy tonight’s CFP semifinal game, under the banner of the Fiesta Bowl. Miami plays at Ole Miss. If the Rebels win, Joe Judge’s credentials as QB coach will be burnished, helping his resume, if he wants to return to the NFL.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for being a reader and subscriber and have a terrific Thursdsay!
