Good morning, all. I hope your week is off to a great start and that you set your clocks back, although in this day and age of smart phones and other digital devices, the clocks do the settings for us!
JUST A NOTE. THERE WILL BE NO NEWSLETTER ON MONDAY. I WILL RETURN WITH THE NEWSLETTER ON TUESDAY.
The Associated Press has been giving out the NFL’s MVP award since 1957. I was amazed to find out who hasn’t been winning the honor. I break it down in the video.
Here are some other thoughts as I contemplate one of sports’ favorite sentences- “There will be a Game 7.”
It will be interesting to see what the Game 7 World Series ratings will be compared to the college football numbers. There are numerous college games going head-to-head with the winner-take-all Dodgers-Blue Jays matchup.
Plenty of interesting NFL action today but the game has to be the 4:20 contest between Kansas City and Buffalo in Orchard Park, NY. The Bills are still getting 1.5 points, as of this writing. Take the Bills and the points.
Prediction: Bill-Chiefs regular season NFL matchup will draw better TV numbers than Game 7 of the World Series.
I don’t think Ryan Day gets enough credit as Ohio St. football coach. Remember, he was on the hot seat last year and all he did was coach the Buckeyes to the national championship. And there they are again this season; the number one ranked team in the nation with an 8-0 record and a 5-0 Big Ten mark, after dismantling Penn State on Saturday.
Things could get interesting, especially after today’s NFL games, with the trade deadline Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.
If the Dallas Cowboys beat Arizona on Monday, I could see them being very active in the trade mart to bolster their defense.
Might Cincinnati try to acquire a QB? The Giants try to trade for a wide receiver? Stay tuned,.
Remember the days when football, basketball and hockey coaches would be on the sidelines wearing a tie and jacket? Or baseball managers wearing full uniforms and not those pullovers? I remember them.
The value of Shohei Ohtani’s baseball card is skyrocketing, during the playoffs. A California card seller tells Front Office Sports he recently sold two of Ohtani’s cards at $100,000 apiece. To paraphrase the late U.S. Sen. Everitt Dirkson of Michigan: “A hundred thousand here, a hundred thousand there. Before you know it, you’re talking real money.”
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you so much for being a subscriber and enjoy your Sunday!
