Yankees will be saved by mediocre AL
Chavez roasts Stearns
Good morning all and happy Tuesday! Can you believe half the year is already shot?
News item: Yankees commit errors
They flashed the graphic in the second inning of last night’s Yankees-Tigers game on YES. New York has allowed 15 unearned runs in its last 9 games, entering last night’s contest. What do you expect when you are playing people out of position? Right now the Yankees defense has more holes than a government budget, and I do not see it getting better anytime soon.
News item: Ex-Met rips Stearns
Don’t you just love podcasts? Ex-big leaguer Eric Chavez, who was fired as Mets hitting coach two years ago by David Stearns, is not being shy with his comments about the Mets President of Baseball Operations in the aftermath of the firing of Carlos Mendoza as manager. In the latest episode of his podcast The EC 3 Pod, Chavez states “None of the moves he (Stearns) has made have worked out.” Chavez then goes on to criticize how Stearns communicates and his lack of respect for those who have played the game.
I think you’re going a little overboard here, Eric. Stearns, remember, does have a “process.” At some point he might even tell Mets fans what the “process” is.
News item: Bichette gets emotional
The headline in The Athletic reads: “In return to Toronto, Bo Bichette gets emotional: “I gave it everything I had.” I’m sure he did not get as emotional as the contract Mets owner Steve Cohen handed him before the season: 3-year, $126M.
News item: Hovland beats Scheffler in one-hole playoff
Following an 80-minute rain delay Sunday, forcing a sudden death playoff into Monday morning at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, CT, Victor Hovland beat Scottie Scheffler in a one-hole playoff. Hovland birdied hole no. 18, while Scheffler missed a birdie putt. I have to admit, both golfers are among my favorites, so I was happy with the winner either way.
And finally…
Take all your video boards, huge screens and noise makers. This is still my all-time favorite scoreboard:
