Good morning, all! I hope your day is off to a great start!
What does the WNBA have against the state of Connecticut? I’ll go so far as to say the greedy WNBA does not like the state of Connecticut. The potential sale of the Connecticut Sun is exhibit A of the league’s animus towards the Nutmeg State.
When the once-desperate league needed “The Basketball Capital of the World,” it was quick to embrace it. Now the league is ready to kick the state to the curb. I explain it all in this video:
Here are some other stories that caught my eye for Thursday, August 21, 2025:
Turns out Yahoo Sports not only has MLB returning to NBC/Peacock but ESPN buying the MLB Network. If that comes to pass, ESPN will have the NFL and MLB in its hip pocket. It is all about streaming and forking over big bucks to subscribe to the ESPN app. For the all-sports-network, which launched from a trailer in Bristol, CT, traditional TV is fini.
Wow! It has come down to this. The Kansas City Star reports that someone fired a shot into the office of Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid on May 4, 2024, and as it turns out, Reid was in the office at the time. The bullet lodged into a wall between the door to Reid’s office and the bathroom, about 15 feet from Reid’s desk. Two other shots were also fired at the building and the incident, more than a year old, remains under investigation. Reid now sits behind bulletproof glass. Can you blame him?
If the Yankees played all their regular season home games at George M. Steinbrenner Field, they might hit 300 in a season.
According to Sportico the average value of an NFL franchise has grown from $3.09B to $7.13B in the last five years. Yikes!
Love watching the Little League World Series! Just sayin.’
I’m thinking the merger of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf is never going to happen. New PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp announced on Wednesday the formation of a new committee led by Tiger Woods and former Red Sox and Cubs GM Theo Epstein that would reimagine the tour. In other words, give it a kick in the golf bag. Red Sox owner John Henry is also on the committee. Here’s what Rolapp said:
The goal is not incremental change. The goal is significant change.
Rolapp said one of his goals is to get the top players to compete against each other more often. Hey, just put all of the tournaments on TikTok and have a social media star provide the commentary. That should do it.
Speaking of which, that will do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for subscribing and have a terrific Thursday!
