Good morning, all! I hope your weekend is off to a great start?
We have a good, old fashioned debate unfolding as to which player should be the American League MVP. As the regular season enters its final weekend, the leading contenders are Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. I give you my pick in the above video.
Here are some other thoughts as I ponder how quickly September went by:
The United States better step it up on day 2 of the Ryder Cup or there’s going to be a lot of people watching football on Sunday.
By the way, as I look at the European team, I cannot help but think how many of them now live in the USA and how many went to school in the USA. Just sayin’.
That Lions-Browns game on Sunday is shaping up to be a better game than some people may expect. There is certainly a lot of chatter between the two teams.
Upon further review, I was way off on my estimate those two private-equity investors are putting up to buy 8% of the New England Patriots. It’s more like $720M, not the $80M I quoted in Friday’s newsletter. And to think, Bob Kraft bought the franchise for $172M. Now it’s valued at more than $9B.
Brock Purdy will start for the undefeated 49ers at QB against the Jags, in case you’re wondering.
And I leave you with this. I am old enough to remember going to or watching MLB games, where “No Betting” signs were posted everywhere. Watch a game on TV and the shot from the center field camera would show a “No Betting” sign posted on the padding behind home plate. Friday, MLB posted this on its Facebook page:
Take note, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, wherever you are. We live in interesting times.
Enjoy your Saturday and thank you for being a subscriber.
