When fans overran Yankee Stadium

Stampede occurred 59 years ago

On April 11, 1966, the New York Yankees opened Yankee Stadium to the public, free-of-charge, to watch the Yankees workout. It was the day before Opening Day, when the Yankees would host the Detroit Tigers. What followed became a part of Yankees history not many people know about.
