MLB spring training camps are opening and all we keep hearing about are hamate bone injuries. The Mets Francisco Lindor may require surgery to alleviate soreness in his hamate bone. The Diamondbacks Corbin Carroll underwent surgery on Wednesday to repair a broken hamate bone. The Orioles Jackson Holliday needs surgery to repair a broken hamate bone. What is going on here?
Is it possible these hitters are taking too much batting practice? The hamate bone, a small wedged-shape bone in the wrist, undergoes stress, when hitting a baseball. For baseball players, there are no more off seasons. Many have indoor or outdoor cages in their multimillion dollar mansions or live near an area where there are indoor cages. They hit constantly in the off season. All ballparks, even minor league parks, have indoor batting cages. Players are in there constantly. When batting practice ends, before a game, they go inside to hit. They go inside to hit, during a game, when their team is at bat. DHs are in there, when their team is in the field. I’m no doctor, but I think it is reasonable to deduce the body can only take so much, regardless of how in condition it may be. Look for numerous stories about hitters and the hamate bone injuries in the coming weeks.

Is it my imagination or am I right to conclude that outside of a couple areas of the country, talk about the Super Bowl, four days after its conclusion, has ceased, while people are still discussing the World Series more than three months after its ending?
