Good morning, all! It’s hump day!
Now that we know the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers will be playing the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, we can hone in on the matchup, like which player will win the World Series MVP. You think I’m kidding? You can place your bets on that and other areas of the Fall Classic. I break it all down in the above video.
Here are some other thoughts as I ponder what ‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson must be thinking about all the betting that has infiltrated sports:
Don’t invite Broncos coach Sean Payton and Giants backup QB Russell Wilson to the same party. In what Wilson interpreted as a slight at him, he responded to postgame comments made by Payton after the Broncos dramatic comeback win over the Giants on Sunday. Payton had great praise for Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart, who replaced Wilson as the Giants starting QB after three games. Remember, Wilson was the Broncos QB under Payton in 2023. “They found a little spark with that quarterback,” Payton said. “I was talking to (Giants owner) John Mara not too long ago, and I said we were hoping that that change would have happened long after our game.” Those comments led Wilson to post the following on social media:
Speaking of swipes, Woody Johnson, who owns the 0-7 New York Jets, is all for any QB change new coach Aaron Glenn makes. Reports indicate Glenn will replace Justin Fields with Tyrod Taylor. Johnson says Glenn is working hard to turn the team around but that it is “hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he’s got. If we could just complete a pass.” Ouch!
Hate to see the great Jack Nicklaus have his name dragged through the mud, but all’s well that ends well, as the Golden Bear wins a $50M defamation lawsuit, that centered around his former business partners alleging Nicklaus had connections with LIV Golf. Nicklaus, 85, denied any association with LIV.
Dismissed! The Giants have cut placekicker Jude McAtamney, after he missed two PAT’s that turned out to be huge in that brutal Sunday defeat at Denver.
The new manager of the Los Angeles Angels is former Angels player Kurt Suzuki, who has never been a manager. He has worked in the Angels front office and was a member of the 2019 World Champion Washington Nationals. Suzuki is a native of Hawaii.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. As always, a huge thank you for being a subscriber and have a terrific Wednesday!
