Texas A&M makes history
UConn states its case, again. It won't happen for Kiffin or Gruden.
Good morning, all! I hope your weekend is going well!
Wow! Undefeated Texas A&M staged its greatest comeback ever. Down 30-3 at the half against South Carolina, the third-ranked Aggies rallied to win 31-30. It is the largest disadvantage the Aggies have ever overcome. Amazing!
The 10-and-0 Aggies conquered that shortfall in less than 20 minutes, taking the lead with 10:47 left in the game! Are you kidding me?
Despite all that, the Aggies were stymied late in the game, as the Gamecocks recovered a fumble near the goal line on a failed, trick play. Then after advancing the ball, South Carolina, inexplicably called a pass play on 2nd-and-1, leading to a sack, and that was all she wrote, as the Aggies emerged with a historic win.
Here are some other thoughts on a what was a great college football Saturday:
Enough already. Get UConn in a Power 4 conference pronto. The Huskies finished undefeated at home, improving to 8-3 with a convincing 26-15 win over Air Force. The UConn football program, which went D1 in 2000, is back thanks to coach Jim Mora. My fear is Mora might try to move on after this season. I will repeat what I stated last week. Tear up Mora’s contract. Give him a new one. And get in a Power 4 conference.
Northwestern-Michigan. Wrigley Field. And the Wolverines win on a field goal, 24-22, as time expired. Great game, with a tremendous backdrop and No. 18 Michigan with a much-needed win as it primes for Ohio St.
Willie Green takes the fall for the injury-riddled New Orleans Pelicans. The now ex-NBA coach, whose team is off to a 2-10 start, was fired on Saturday, replaced by associate head coach James Borrego.
Huge win for No. 11 Oklahoma, as they went down to No. 4 Alabama and upset the Crimson Tide, 23-21. It is not easy beating Alabama on its home turf, even for a storied program like Oklahoma’s. This is going to be some college football playoff.
I would say No. 9 Notre Dame has No. 22 Pitt’s number, wouldn’t you? The Fighting Irish dismantled the Panthers, 37-15, improving to 8-2. Notre Dame has now won five straight against Pittsburgh. The Panthers fell to 7-3.
Entering the game 1-9 and 0-6 in the ACC, BC was unable to hold the lead down the stretch at home and lost a heartbreaker to Georgia Tech, 36-34. With the portal and NIL, however, coach Bill O’Brien is capable of resurrecting that program in a hurry.
Phew! These go in streaks, don’t they? Remember when Notre Dame was the cream-of-the-crop in women’s college basketball? The No. 18 ranked Fighting Irish got clobbered by No. 14 Michigan, 93-54, on Saturday.
As the Washington Commanders prepare to play the Miami Dolphins in Spain today - 9:30 a.m. kick-off EST - their head coach Dan Quinn says it is feasible for each NFL club to play one international game per season. I do not know how much commissioner Roger Goodell payed him to say that, but that is the commissioner’s goal. And it (Each team playing one international game per season) will happen, because there is too much money to be made, if it doesn’t become part of the NFL blueprint.
According to an MLB social media post, here are the top 10 free agents:
How much the above talent and other free agents snag is dependent on the labor strife facing the game, with the collective bargaining agreement between the players and the owners expiring on Dec. 1, 2026.
Mark it down! Lane Kiffin will not be the next head coach of the New York Giants. Neither will Jon Gruden. That will not stop the clickbait headlines though.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for subscribing and enjoy your Sunday.
