Here are some other thoughts, as we stroll into the Saturday before Thanksgiving, and I, like many others, wonder what might have been:
Right on Houston. Left on Elm. Never forget. Our world changed forever, 62 years ago today.
I was in the third grade on that fateful day. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Gilson, had been called out of class - a very unusual move. Moments later, she came rushing in and said “Class! Something terrible has happened. We are dismissing early.” I looked at the clock. It was 2:45 p.m. Normally, dismissal time was 3:00. Walking home with my friend on Washington Ave., I could see his sister running down the street. She was screaming: “They shot the President! They shot the President!” I always wonder, and I am sure many of you do too: What might have been had JFK not been shot.
It is The Game today, as Yale hosts Harvard at historic Yale Bowl in the 141st meeting between these Ivy League rivals.
There is plenty on the line for this one. Harvard has lost to Yale three straight seasons and is going for its first undefeated season since 2014. The Crimson is 9-0 and 6-0 in the Ivy. Yale is 7-2 and 5-1 in the Ivy. At stake is a trip to the FCS playoffs. The Ivy League is competing in the postseason for the first time. A Yale win and the Bulldogs will go to the playoffs with Harvard likely getting an at large bid. A Harvard win and Yale’s season is likely over. Next season the schools will play at Fenway Park.
Because of the anticipated big crowd, New Haven officials have announced several road closures. Here is the link for road information. You can thank me later.
An ‘NFL Insider’ says Robert Saleh has a chance to be the next head coach of the New York Giants. And so do I. Robert Saleh, a solid DC, but a failed head coach with the New York Jets, will not be the next head coach of the Giants. And you do not need to be an insider to reach that conclusion.
The NBA’s new media package, becoming a partner with Amazon and NBC, is turning out better than a full court press. One month into the season and ratings are up 30%. And that is with 50% of the league’s stars on the sidelines with injuries.
The roof at Tropicana Field has been completely replaced. The ballpark, which suffered severe damage, thanks to Hurricane Milton, will be ready for the Tampa Bay Rays Opening Day next season. So much for the prognosticators who generated a lot of clickbait by predicting the Rays would move to - pick your city - Orlando? Nashville? Montreal?
Reports are two high-profile LA Dodgers executives, Andrew Freidman and Farhan Zaidai, have taken advisory roles with the LA Lakers. Billionaire Mark Walter owns both franchises.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has promised Nashville a Super Bowl, now that a new stadium is being built for the Tennessee Titans. Now they need to build a football team.
I would say the Buffalo Bills have some issues and that coach Sean McDermott could be on thin ice. You?
The Seattle Mariners will retire pitcher Randy Johnson’s No. 51 uniform next season.
Mark down Nov. 29, one week from today. Ole’ Miss AD Keith Carter says that is when the future of football coach Lane Kiffin will be revealed.
The New York Liberty’s next head coach will reportedly be Warriors assistant coach Chris DeMarco. He has been a long time Golden State assistant under Mark Jackson and Steve Kerr.
It is amazing. I remember when the Warriors were the laughing stock of the NBA. Now they are the gold standard, proving any franchise can turn it around with the proper approach.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for subscribing. Have a terrific Saturday!
