Skattebo makes Giant prediction
Buss outta town. Red Sox uniforms like they ought to be
Good morning, all! It’s Fridayyyyy!!!!!
The New York Giants are floundering yet again, entering Sunday’s game at Detroit with a 2-9 record. That is not stopping ebullient rookie running back Cam Skattebo - he of WWE fame - from predicting big things for Big Blue in 2026.
Appearing on N3On YouTube channel, Skattebo predicted the Giants will go 12-5 next season and make the playoffs. The Giants fourth round pick out of Arizona St. in the 2025 draft, Skattebo, along with first round pick QB Jaxson Dart, helped energize the offense, until he went down with a season-ending ankle injury at Philadelphia. That has not stopped him from making the rounds and issuing bold statements. Long-suffering Giants fans can only hope he’s right with his latest predictions.
Here are some other thoughts, as I contemplate my Week 12 predictions:
Billionaire Mark Walter, owner of the two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, and new owner of the LA Lakers, has started making changes. Joey and Jesse Buss, who worked in the team’s scouting department, have been fired. They were the sons of the late Lakers owner Jerry Buss. A deep dive into the franchise sees a family feud, with their older sister Jeanie Buss, remaining with the team. She had a public falling out with Joey and Jesse, as well as her two older brothers.
Family feuds seem to be the rage these days. Reportedly, a feud within the Siedler family, owners of the San Diego Padres, is one reason that team is exploring a sale.
Word is, among the reasons the NFL is considering expanding its already busy international schedule, is supersonic flights. Reducing the amount of time it requires to arrive at an overseas destination, will make it more practical for international travel. Of course, those out-of-the-U.S. games are generating mucho dollars for the world’s most popular sports enterprise.
Speaking of which, if ever a cartoon was prescient. This cartoon appeared in the New Yorker magazine two days after Thanksgiving Day in 1949:
Hey! At least they used to dress up for Thanksgiving Day dinner.
Sixty years ago this week the Boston Red Sox placed popular third baseman Frank Malzone on waivers. Malzone is pictured below in the only home uniform the Red Sox should be wearing today. Take those City Connect and other uniforms they wear at Fenway and bury them in the foundation of the new building Red Sox ownership wants to construct beyond the Green Monster.
Malzone, a native of the Bronx, played the 1966 season with the California Angels before retiring. He died in Needham, MA at the age of 85 on Dec. 29, 2015.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. As always, thank you for subscribing and have a terrific Friday.
