R.I.P. Kyle Busch
Schoen stays
Good morning, all and happy Friday!
Shocked to hear of the passing of NASCAR racer Kyle Busch. Eleven days ago the two-time Cup Series champion complained of sinus issues, while competing at Watkins Glen. Apparently he had a sinus cold made worse by the “intense G-forces and elevation changes at the New York road course,” ESPN reported. He requested a doctor meet him at the race team bus, following the race, for a “shot.”
Busch was all set to compete in this weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Early Thursday the Busch race team revealed he had withdrawn from the race, after being hospitalized with a “severe illness.” By late afternoon news broke the 41-year-old NASCAR driver had died.
Cause of death has not been revealed.
Schoen stays
I am old enough to remember when nj.com ran a story that New York Giants GM Joe Schoen was gone after the NFL draft, that the only reason the Giants were keeping him was he had done so much work on the draft, they did not want to let him go until the draft was completed. We were told new head coach John Harbaugh was calling the shots and Schoen did not want to play second fiddle, after being the main guy the last four years.
Guess what? The Giants announced last night that Schoen has been signed to a multi-year contract extension. Expect one of two things from nj.com; either cartwheels explaining why the Giants had a change of heart or just a straight report on the extension. Don’t hold your breath for a mea culpa.
Talk about losing a bet
A fantasy football player in Kansas City had such a bad season, part of his penalty was to apologize in public.
He issued his apology for all to see at the Royals-Red Sox game in Kansas City earlier this week.
How cool is this?
The St. Louis Cardinals did it right earlier this week, having a World War II vet and a former minor league pitcher in their system throw out the first pitch. Floyd Melliere turned 101 years old the day the first pitch ceremony was held. Good stuff.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for subscribing and have a fantastic Friday!
