Now that’s a rivalry

Bears are for real. Could it be Patricia at UConn?

Good morning, all! I hope your holiday weekend is going well!

In my neck of the woods, when people talk rivalry, they hold up the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry as an example. When it comes to rivalries, however, Red Sox-Yankees pale in comparison to Ohio St.-Michigan and several other college football rivalries. I break it all down in the above video.

Here are some other thoughts as I plow through my overrun email box thanks to Black Friday “deals:”

  • The Chicago Bears have convinced me they are for real. How can they be considered otherwise, after going into Philadelphia and engineering a dominate, 24-15 performance against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in their Black Friday matchup?

  • The Eagles are a troubled team but do not rule them out yet, as far as reversing course and being a tough team down the stretch. That said, you could hear the boos up here in Connecticut, as Eagles fans expressed their displeasure at their club’s poor performance on Friday.

  • It really has gotten to the point, where after every big play in the NFL, you hold your breath waiting to see if a yellow flag has been thrown.

  • The coaching alignment is becoming clearer as Tavita Pritchard has been hired as the next coach of the Stanford Cardinal. Pritchard has been the Washington Commanders quarterback coach the last three years, but once quarterbacked Stanford.

  • Oregon St. also has its new head coach, JaMarcus Sheppard. He had been serving as the assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator at Alabama. Sheppard, reportedly has plenty of charisma and is just what the doctor ordered for a sinking program in Corvallis, OR.

  • Seeing in some quarters that Matt Patricia, DC of the Ohio St. Buckeyes, might be the next coach of the UConn Huskies. Do not rule him out. Yes, that is the same Patricia who was a long time assistant under Bill Belichick with the Patriots and former head coach of the Detroit Lions.

  • So Jerry Jones is out there saying his Cowboys offered the Jets Micah Parsons and a first round pick for Quinnen Williams, before the start of the season but the Jets said “no.” He claims they did not have a enough salary cap space. Interesting story, if true. Remember, the Jets did not have to tear things down, but that is what they did, after an ugly start to their season. By the way, in case you did not notice, Parsons had a rip-roaring performance for the Packers against the Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. As always, thank you for subscribing and have a great Saturday!
