Good morning, all! I hope your weekend is off to a great start!
It is NFL wild card weekend, one of the best weekends of the season. How much will weather impact the games? Award-winning meteorologist Brad Field and I discuss the weather and make our predictions on the games. We recorded this segment, during the recording of the Brad Field Weather podcast.
Here are some other thoughts, with rain in the offing, where I live:
Hall of Fame broadcaster Al Michaels, who will call tonight’s playoff game between Green Bay and Chicago on PRIME-TV, will return for another season. Michaels, 81, says he feels as energetic as ever. Good for him. And good for Amazon to bring him back. By the way, Richard Deitsch of Sports Business Journal, was the first to report the story.
On the broadcast front, David Cone is reportedly out at ESPN. He had been part of the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast team. A top analyst, Cone also broadcasts Yankees games on YES. Look for him to be a lead candidate to join NBC, now that the network is once again telecasting MLB games.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has really started the conversation, during an interview on WFAN on Thursday. He mentioned how baseball has discussed a split season concept, an in season tournament - much like the NBA - and much more. I will break it all down next week, but Manfred does bring up some great points.
Word is Cody Bellinger is seeking a six to seven-year deal worth between $36 and $37M per year. Good luck. The problem is, his agent Scott Boras will find some sucker team to give that kind of a deal.
It looks more-and-more as if Bo Bichette could end up with the Phillies.
If the New York Giants land John Harbaugh, they better be prepared to pay dearly. Harbaugh is, obviously, going to demand big money, but his staff will also want high pay. Harbaugh was never a coordinator. His claim to fame was special teams coach. That is why he has always brought first class coordinators to his staff. Throw in New Jersey has one of the nation’s highest state income tax rates - remember the Giants are based in the Garden State - and these coaches are going to demand proper compensation.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. As always, thank you for subscribing and enjoy your weekend!
DAN
