Mets fire Carlos Mendoza
Andy Green named interim manager
Carlos Mendoza is the lucky one. He has been put out of his misery. The Mets have fired Mendoza as manager. The announcement made moments ago. Mendoza will be replaced by former San Diego Padres manager Andy Green, who has been working in the New York organization.
The Mets are in a tailspin, having lost six games in a row, including a four-game sweep at home by the Chicago Cubs, earmarked by a porous defense that has not been witnessed since the likes of the 1962 Mets. At least that team was Amazing. This team is absolutely boring.
It is doubtful Green can do much, but the horrendous play of the club forced management to make a change. The Mets approach the second-half of the season with a 34-47 record. Entering 2026, they had the highest payroll in baseball.
New York opens a weekend series at Citi Field against their division rivals the red-hot Philadelphia Phillies.
