Mets disarray overblown

Ohio St. delivers. Yale with the comeback

Good morning, all! I hope you have had a great Thanksgiving Day weekend! All that anticipation and then boom! It goes by in a flash. Such is life.

The story broke over the last few days in the NY Post about a divided New York Mets clubhouse in 2025. In the above video, I explain why it is much ado about nothing.

Here are some other thoughts as I contemplate whether we will get our first snowstorm of the winter this week:

  • Let’s begin with the weather, as I give another shameless plug for the weather podcast I co-host with award-winning meteorologist Brad Field. There will be an updated podcast, before the storm, with details. Until then, you might want to hold off on buying your bread and milk.

  • Ohio St. delivered a resounding message Saturday, pounding Michigan, 27-9. The game was played in a driving snow in the second half at Ann Arbor, just adding to the flavor of this rivalry. The win was especially delicious for Ohio St. coach Ryan Day, whose team had lost for straight to Michigan. Never forget, Day’s job was hanging in the balance last year, after losing to the Wolverines yet again, but the Buckeyes rallied to win the national championship and save Day’s job. Now 12-0, the #1 ranked Buckeyes play #2 Indiana, also 12-0, for the Big 10 title next week. The number one seed in the CFP will be on the line.

  • How about Yale? The Bulldogs manhandled undefeated Harvard in The Game last week to earn their first-ever appearance in the FCS playoffs. Then they mount one of the all-time great comebacks. Trailing 42-14 early in the third quarter at Youngstown St., the Elis rallied on Saturday to win 43-42. Twenty-nine unanswered points was unthinkable, but Yale pulled it off for the historic resurrection from the dead.

  • Harvard? The Crimson was clobbered by Villanova in another FCS playoff contest, 52-7.

  • ESPN is reporting Tulane coach Jon Sumrall is in the lead to become the next football coach at Florida.

  • As of this writing, Lane Kiffin is still deciding whether to stay at ‘Ole Miss or take the LSU job. Kiffin had also been rumored to be going to Florida. By the time this newsletter is published, Kiffin may have made up his mind. All I know is they are throwing around a lot of money, wherever he shows up.

  • With four NFL games played between Thanksgiving and Black Friday, not many big games on the docket today. The Texans at the Colts and the Bills at Steelers look to be two good ones and do not discount New Orleans at Miami, as the Dolphins attempt to make a late drive for the playoffs.

  • It could be wishful thinking on my part, but I would not be surprised if we have a busy week of baseball news, as a prelude to next week’s winter meetings at Orlando.

That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. There will be no Monday newsletter but I’ll have another one all set to go on Tuesday. Thank you so much for subscribing and have a terrific Sunday!
