Kudos to the Mets

Don't you dare. No expanded field

Good morning, all! Hope you are making it through one of the more memorable winter weekends we have had in many a year, from subzero temperatures to more than a foot of snow, all within a 72-hour period. My hunch is we will survive, despite the armageddon picture being painted by some in the local media.

Now then. How about those Mets? They have been rather active over the last eight days; wouldn’t you say? I break it all down in the above video!

Here are some other thoughts on this second-to-last Saturday in January:

  • Don’t you even think about it, my local CBS affiliate! Don’t you dare! I’m watching local coverage, 40 hours before the snowstorm is supposed to begin, and am being told that extensive storm coverage will be provided from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. Well, that “extensive storm coverage” better take a pause between 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Because if there are reporters being blinded by snowflakes with plow trucks as backdrops on my TV screen, instead of New England Patriots at Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game, I am going to be one unhappy camper. And there is one thing you can bet on. I’ll have plenty of company in my unhappiness. Just sayin.’

  • I’ve got the Patriots winning on Sunday, but here is something on which to chew: New England has never won a playoff game at Denver. By the way, it’s a certainty Mike Vrabel has reminded his team of that, as just another way to rev them up.

  • This winter storm has really set the schedule makers into a tizzy. The NBA, college, you name it. Games and start time of games are being moved around faster than pawns on a chessboard.

  • Well, Philip Rivers being interviewed for the Buffalo Bills head coaching job was certainly a shocker. Imagine if he got it? From high school to NFL coach with a stop at NFL QB for a few games, all within five months, would be quite a story.

  • No expanded CFP format for 2026. The announcement came Friday that the playoff field will remain at 12 teams. Do not fret, though. They will add more teams at some point. Bet on it! Which many do and which why more teams will be added to the field.

  • I still say the Mets are not done reconstructing their roster and neither are the Red Sox. Boston needs another bat, preferably an infielder. The coming week could be another interesting one for baseball fans.

That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for subscribing and enjoy the big storm.
