Good morning, all! I hope your weekend went splendidly. Now it is time for a new work week!
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll may have saved his job. At least for now. The Giants head coach, dangling by a thread, opted to start rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, the Giants first round pick out of Mississippi, benching Russell Wilson. Dart did not disappoint, leading New York to a 21-18 win over the previously undefeated Chargers and their highly regarded coach, Jim Harbaugh. I was very impressed with the rookie QB. Making his first start, he showed poise and confidence.
Would I like to see some adjustments? Yes! He should be carrying the ball less. Will he miss Nabors? Does a bear sleep in the woods? But as costly as losing wideout Malik Nabors for the season could be, the Giants could retool. The bottom line is, the Giants beat a very good, undefeated football team on Sunday. If you tell me they could be 4-4 after their first eight games, you would not get an argument from me. And remember, I though they would go 0-9 at the outset.
Here are some other thoughts crossing my mind, as we enter a new week:
I could be wrong, but the Mets are a very disappointing team. I do not want to hear any excuses from the owner on down. You fork out millions to sign Juan Soto and have the second highest payroll in baseball, you should make the playoffs. Case closed.
Congratulations to the playoff-bound Cincinnati Reds. Can we all agree that Terry Francona is one of the best managers ever?
In case you are wondering, here’s the bracket for the MLB postseason tournament:
Furious rally by Team USA, but Europe hangs on for 15-13 win to capture the Ryder Cup. Congratulations.
It might be time to realize the Kansas City Chiefs are not over the hill.
You are not dreaming. The Chicago Bears are 2-2. However, do not dismiss the Pete Carroll-coached Raiders, just because they are off to a 1-3 start.
Another college coach gets the ax. It is no more cutesy time with the NIL and the like. These big time college teams are expected to win and when they do not, watch out. Arkansas coach Sam Pittman was the latest to fall, replaced by OC Bobby Petrino, who was once head coach of the Razorbacks. Petrino was named as an interim but says he wants to be considered for the permanent post. What his team does on the field will be the determining factor.
I like the idea that all the games of the last day of the MLB season start at the same time.
Red Sox-Yankees? I give the edge to the Red Sox because of Garrett Crochet. That said, Crochet vs. Fried is must-see baseball Tuesday night.,
If you tell me John Harbaugh’s job is hanging in the balance, I would not disagree.
That is going to do it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for subscribing and have a great week.
