Dave Parker, scheduled to be inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame next month, died on Saturday. He had turned 74 on June 9.
Parker, who became the first pro baseball player to earn $1M in a season, played mostly for the Pittsburgh Pirates and his hometown Cincinnati Reds. He also played briefly with the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, California Angels and Toronto Blue Jays.
Parker was elected to the hall earlier this year by the Classic Era Committee. His career was not without its trials and tribulations, with some claiming that is what denied him election to the hall by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Here is a more extensive story about his career.
