Good morning, all! I hope your work week is off to a terrific start!
Former MLB manager Buck Showalter has been a tremendous steward of the game. Like many people, he has joined the debate about how baseball should realign, after commissioner Bud Selig suggested last week that change is in the wind.
In examining his plan, it comes very close to what I have recommended in the DAN PLAN. I look at the similarities and the differences in this video.
Here are some other thoughts, as I ponder why starting pitchers can’t make it three times through the opposing team’s batting order:
Tommy Fleetwood sure picked a good time to win his first PGA Tournament. Not only does he win The Tour Championship, he becomes the FedEx Cup champion and, by the way, takes home $10M.
NFL teams must be down to 53 players on their roster by Tuesday, in case you are wondering.
Nice for the Milwaukee Brewers to name the broadcast booth after the late Bob Uecker.
UNC Coach Bill Belichick (You’ve heard of him, haven’t you?) confirmed to his players the football team will be featured on a Hulu series.
Dynasty redux. Chinese Taipei captures its 18th LLWS title with a 7-0 win over Nevada. However, it’s their first championship since 1996. They remind me of the New York Yankees.
Michigan will open its football season with a true freshman QB for the first time since 2009. Bryce Underwood will get the nod on Saturday against New Mexico. The Wolverines have invested $10M in Underwood. I guess you could call it underwriting Underwood (Ugh!).
Came across a gem of a radio interview the late Brad Davis and I did with St. John’s coaching great Lou Carnesecca on Feb. 6, 2001. I digitized the interview over the weekend and will post it to paid subscribers soon.
That is it for today’s newsletter. Thank you for subscribing and have a great Monday!
