Good morning, all! It’s hump day!
MLB released its schedule for the 2026 season and the announcement may have gotten more traction, if not for a certain engagement announcement, but I digress. Anyway, among the takeaways from the schedule is the vagabond Athletics, who are slated to play in their brand new stadium being built in Las Vegas in 2028. They will actually play games in Vegas in 2026 in the ballpark that houses their AAA affiliate. Two series are slated for June.
Other takeaways:
The season opens on Mar. 25, the earliest ever for an MLB season. The Yankees will play at San Francisco in the only game scheduled on that date. The rest of the teams will open the next day.
The Yankees will play the Mets on Sep. 11, the 25th anniversary of 9-11.
Rivalry weekend, which boosted attendance, will return next season.
Some other thoughts for Aug. 27, 2025, while pondering why Cal Raleigh should be the MVP over Aaron Judge:
Pitching really destroys an arm, doesn’t it? Poor Nathan Eovaldi of the Texas Rangers. He’s having a potential Cy Young season and now he’s done for the year. Word is he has a rotator cuff strain. Below are his numbers.
It was NFL cutdown day on Tuesday and the NY Giants cut hometown hero QB Tommy “Cutlets” DeVito. Two seasons ago, DeVito became a cult hero, coming off the bench to lead the stumbling Giants to three straight wins, gaining endorsements and landing that nickname “Tommy Cutlets” because of his Italian-American heritage and his mother’s famous chicken cutlets. Here’s hoping he lands with another team.
Shedeur Sanders makes the Browns and will be the number 3 QB.
Almost 4.5M people watched Tommy Fleetwood capture the Tour Championship on Sunday, strong ratings for NBC.
David Stearns told a NY Post Sports podcast Carlos Mendoza will return for a third year as Mets manager.
As always, thank you for subscribing and have a terrific day.
