Athletics hold Vegas groundbreaking
Celtics trade Holiday. NBA ratings jump. KC mayor upbeat on Chiefs and Royals
Good morning, all!
Like it or not - and many social media influencers do not like it - the Athletics held groundbreaking ceremonies for their new ballpark in Las Vegas on Monday. Among those in attendance were baseball commissioner Rob Manfred and former Athletics pitcher and current team broadcaster Dallas Braden.
You can argue until the elephants come home that the Athletics should not have left Oakland, but the reality is they did need a new stadium and Oakland dragged its feet on the project. Yes, Jeff Fisher is not a popular owner. However, he owns the franchise and with the support of other MLB owners moved to Las Vegas, with a three year stopover in Sacramento.
As for the influencers, some who at one time had credibility, they continue to supply a narrative that does not meet with reality. First they said the Athletics would never leave Oakland. Then they said the A’s would never move to Vegas. Then they said the Nevada legislature would never approve funding for the A’s new ballpark. Then they said the site for the new ballpark would never be developed. Then site work began and they chided the A’s for not having an official groundbreaking ceremony. Now they are saying the groundbreaking is just a show and the park will never be built. They have been wrong on all accounts.
That will not stop them from continuing to provide a false picture of what is happening with their long gone Athletics. I fully expect, when the A’s are actually playing in Vegas, they will tell us on their social media channels what we are seeing is really AI generated.
Look, you can make legitimate arguments that Fisher is a chump and screwed the A’s fans by abandoning Oakland. He’s not the first owner to give fans the shaft and will not be the last. But denying what is transpiring in Vegas or purposely misleading to generate clicks is like saying the Dodgers are still playing in Brooklyn. Get over it. Believe it. If you have an ounce of credibility admit the Athletics are moving to Las Vegas. MLB wants it. The A’s want it. And it’s happening. Right or wrong the groundbreaking occurred Monday.
